We are excited you are here to learn more about youth ministry at Etowah United Methodist Church! We strive to offer opportunities for middle school and high school youth to grow in their Christian faith through study, retreats, missions, and fellowship. If you have any questions about youth ministry at EUMC, please email me, Will Holt, at wholteumc@gmail.com or call me at 828-891-4360.
On-going Youth Programming
Sunday Night Youth – (UMYF): middle school and high school youth meet Sunday nights from 4:30-6:00 at church in the youth room for short lessons with games, activities, and fellowship. Periodically, youth will take this time to meet outside of the church walls for local activities (go out for bowling, ice cream, house gatherings, etc.) or local missions.
Wednesday Night Youth: on Wednesday evenings, youth will meet from 6:30-7:30 to explore in-depth topics and conversations that pertain to Christian faith as a youth in contemporary society.
Music Ministry: On Sundays Kevin Blythe and Will Holt lead a music ministry to teach guitar and to play songs together in the fellowship hall from 3:30-4:30 for youth 4th grade to 12th grade. We have a list of lessons to cover for beginners. For youth who already know the basics, Will or Kevin will lead a music circle to begin playing songs together in a group. Thus, any skill level is invited! There is no cost to attend. REGISTER HERE.
Confirmation: this is a special class for middle and high school youth that explores Methodist theology and doctrine. Confirmation typically runs from the beginning of the year until the summer. Upon graduation, youth will become confirmed members of the church.
Events, Retreats, and Missions: throughout the year, youth will have opportunities to attend youth retreats and events. Many of these are put on by our Western United Methodist Conference. Other events such as summer mission trips and local service projects are lead by ministerial staff. For a glimpse of upcoming events, check out the updated column on the right.
We hope you will come and discover the wonderful things God is doing among and through our youth. To sign up for email updates, send an email request to Will Holt at wholteumc@gmail.com

Detailed Updates on Youth Programs and Events
Halloween Cabin Decorating: Kids from the area will go trick-or-treating at Camp Tekoa on October 28. Our youth group has a tradition of being a part of this by decorating a cabin at the camp with a fun theme and serving candy that night. We will begin decorating on Wednesday, Oct. 24 and pass out candy on Oct. 28. Be thinking of a fun theme. Last year was the Incredibles; it was incredible…
Only Hope Sleepout: This year’s Sleepout downtown Hendersonville will be on Friday, Nov. 9. We will spend the night in our own tents at the Courthouse on Main St. to raise awareness of childhood homelessness in Western NC. Cost is $25. More details about Only Hope and the Sleepout can be found here at their website.
Winter Retreat: Event and location is still being determined.
2019 Summer Mission Trip to Puerto Rico: Middle and high school youth will be going to Ponce, Puerto Rico the week of July 14-20. We will be going with TEAMeffort. For more information on the trip, call or email Will Holt or check out TEAMeffort’s website here
* EUMC understands if money is a hindrance for youth attending events and we will work on providing a sponsorship for some or all of the cost.
