Sally Germanaro, Music Director

I was born in Salina, Kansas. My parents were great musicians. It was inevitable that I would study everything and anything related to music. Piano lessons began at age 5, followed by performing in church choirs, school choirs and marching band. My family even had a “Partridge Family” style band and performed at parades and county fairs. I began ballet lessons at age 3 which later afforded me the opportunity to dance for the Columbus, Ohio Civic Ballet Association as a ballerina. I am a singer, play piano, flute, autoharp, keyboards, ukulele, and a little hammered dulcimer. I love to sew, read, garden, and travel with my husband. For many years I performed on stage as well as directed many Broadway productions.

I taught piano lessons to help put myself through the Columbus, Ohio Conservatory of Music at Capital University where I studied classical piano under Bela Szylagyi, artist-in-residence, world-renowned composer and pianist. I also studied voice under Carol Marty.

After graduating with a degree in Music Education with emphasis in piano and voice, I traveled the world and found opportunities in many places to build and conduct choirs. I began teaching in 1985 back in the USA. I retired from public school music education in 2014 but still teaching as the Lord is not done with me yet!

I have always felt strongly led to serve as a church music director but have always had a love for teaching children all about music. I am amazed how the Lord stays on me for both callings. I am truly PASSIONATE about corporate worship and congregational singing! And I LOVE to teach little children to sing praises to God. All music was created by God and we are to respond to His incredible gift!

I met my true love David, in 1997 while we were the two new teachers at school. He was the new occupational therapist and I was the new music teacher. We were happily married in 2001 and still happy! Our wedding ceremony was actually the sermon at our church that day!
We have two daughters and two sons, all married, and three grandchildren and counting….all beautiful blessings, and all boys!

I am so blessed to serve as the director of music ministries for the wonderful people at Etowah UMC.
