Etowah UMC Music Ministry

Hallelujah! Praise God in His holy house of worship, praise Him under the open skies; Praise Him for His acts of power, Praise Him for His magnificent greatness; Praise with a blast on the trumpet, Praise by strumming soft strings; Praise Him with castanets and dance, Praise Him with banjo and flute; Praise Him with cymbals and a big bass drum, Praise Him with fiddles and mandolin. Let every living, breathing creature praise God! Hallelujah!
– Psalm 150 The Message
The Chancel Choir sings Sunday mornings for the 11:00 AM traditional service. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 PM in the Choir Room. Members consist of sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses. Music reading is not necessary but always helpful.
For those who cannot commit to weekly choir rehearsals and like to participate for special events, these rehearsals begin 6 to 8 weeks prior to the concert meeting in the sanctuary for rehearsal. All are welcome to participate in either or both choirs. The Christmas Choir performs a seasonal cantata. The Easter Choir performs special anthems for Holy Week and Easter Sunday. The 2nd Story Team and Band also participates in special musical events and concerts. All singers in all music groups are dynamic, God-loving, and talented folks!
Each fall, usually in October, the combined choirs and praise team put on an exhilirating concert to raise money for the music ministry or other deserving ministries.
The community supports these concerts by their continued “packed-house” attendance! Various styles of music are performed with many professional musicians and talented singers!
This fast-growing group of instrumentalists and singers lead the contemporary worship service at 9:45 AM on Sundays. We are an exciting group of 10 singers with a full band who the  praise our Lord with the most appropriate and contemporary songs heard today. Many of our songs can be heard on 106.9 FM the Light. Rehearsals are Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. If you are interested in joining this team, please contact the Director of Music Ministries at the church office. This is an auditioned group and music reading skills are preferred but not required.
Our young children sing for us during the Advent, Christmas, and Easter Season as well as during special times in the church year. Children from the community are invited to participate.

The Etowah Drama Ministry began in March 2017 with the presentation of The Living Last Supper. This was a deeply-moving and successful experience with a cast of thirteen, with wonderful acting, beautiful period costumes, and a realistic original backdrop. For the years following, the drama ministry has presented other original dramas for Holy Week called The Next Day, Into Thy Hands of Glory, and this year’s drama called In That Beautiful Bitter Garden. All scenery and scripts are from the Bible with music added from various composers.
The Etowah UMC Drama Ministry welcomes those who are interested in volunteering their talents as productions are announced. Bring your God-given gifts of acting, singing, dancing, sewing, writing, playing an instrument, drawing or painting, building, etc. For more information please contact the music director.
